Accepting Who You Are to Become Who You Should Be

The word “sin” comes from an archery term meaning “to miss the mark”. Essentially, archers aim at something and then release their arrows. Where the arrow lands is a consequence of how good its aim is, yes, but also several external factors — wind, the movement of the target, etc. It’s important to think about sin like this because it implies that you are still aiming toward the good but that you miss the mark sometimes.

Recognizing What is Good

In fact, one of the most fundamental messages of Christianity is that those who are able to enter the kingdom of God can do so if they accept God into their hearts meaning if they accept what is the highest good — what’s worth aiming at. Hence, whether you miss is irrelevant compared to recognizing what is good and then doing your best to achieve that.
